The lack of a library in Gnosall was highlighted this week by Staffordshire County Councillor Barry Stamp. Speaking at the Council's Cultural and Property Services Scrutiny Committee meeting, Councillor Stamp said that while the County Council's Library Vision statement and priorities for the coming year were welcomed, he was concerned that little appeared to be happening to provide a much-needed Library in Gnosall. "Gnosall is one the largest villages in Staffordshire and is unusual in not having its own library. Over the years there has been considerable local pressure to get such a facility provided in the Village but nothing is happening. The County Council is keen to publicise its vision statement for its Library service, which clearly states that Libraries have an important role to play in the community. However, I am worried that the County Council is placing too much emphasis on developing the existing library buildings and services at the expense of providing new facilities. Over the past few years Gnosall has grown considerably and now needs far more than just a mobile library service. Every effort much now be put into both finding suitable premises in the Village for a proper permanent library facility and also into allocating money to allow the development to take place. I will continue to press the Service Leader for Cultural Services and the County Librarian on this important matter," said Councillor Stamp |
